F1 - Barcelona Preseason - Day 3
Third day of winter testing at Barcelona with Bottas and Vettel breaking all the records making a lap of 1:19, really close to the record since the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya changed their track layout in 2007. The silver arrows are still the fastest cars on track, but Ferrari is really close to them.
The first red flag of the session didn't take so long to appear today with Jolyon Palmer, only 30 minutes after the start of the session when he spun on the first sector, probably due the low temperatures of the morning. When the session started again, all the teams could work without problems except Toro Rosso. Bottas with Mercedes was making better sectors in every lap, showing lower times than the other two days. McLaren, on their side, without problems, were making aerodynamic test until they receive the engine that they will use in Australia next week, so they were making slow laps but they could work today. Before the ending of the morning session, Stroll crashed with his Williams... Again.
During the afternoon we had some changes for some teams, Sainz and Hamilton tested instead of Kvyat and Bottas. Ferrari was improving their times this afternoon with soft tyres, being close to Valtteri's time, who made his lap with ultra soft. Carlos Sainz caused the second red flag of the day when he ran away at turn 4 after knewing that there was a problem with the engine. 5 minutes after the green flag, Stroll lost the control at turn 5 and went into the wall, crashing there, being his third crash in two days. The last red flag was caused by Sebastian Vettel who stopped his car at the entrance of the main straight of the track with just 10 minutes left for the end of the session.
With the chequered flag, Valtteri Bottas finished the session being the fastest driver on track with Sebastian Vettel really close to him. With 1 and a half second of distance we had Daniel Ricciardo. Today it was a really productive day for most of the teams, being Ferrari, Mercedes and Sauber the only ones who made more than 100 laps, but Williams was really close to them with 98 laps.
Tomorrow will be the last day of the first round of testing and we will have a wet test because while we're writing these words, some trucks are putting some water to the spanish track to test the full wet tyres. Stay tuned for more updates.
